Headup’s Everreach looks more like Mass Effect than ME: Andromeda

Mini Mass Effect.

Watch the trailer for Everreach: Project Eden and you might think you’re watching a DLC for the original Mass Effect game. You’re not, obviously. The similarities are pretty striking though, right down to the formation of the spacesuit and the cellular shield the game’s protagonist Nora throws up during battle. Imitation is no bad thing, however, and you never know, they might pull off a Mass Effect-style game that betters recent instalments of the franchise. Anything is possible… in space.

The game casts you as Nora Harwood, an officer in Everreach’s Security Division, tasked with making sure the colonisation process on Planet Eden goes off without a hitch. But of course there are hitches, because there are always hitches in sci-fi. Usually those hitches look like aliens with guns. Some mysterious incidences have been taking place, and Nora must discover how the lost and ancient civilisation of this planet might be involved.

This action-RPG mixes “tactical ground combat with high-speed vehicular warfare and a compelling level and skill system”. You can customise your skills and gear as you progress in the game’s narrative. From the trailer we get to see a bit of the game’s hover vehicle in flight, but so far it doesn’t look like an entirely smooth ride. Some of Nora’s movements also look a little unnatural but perhaps this footage is still at the earlier stages of development. Either way, the world and narrative look intriguing, so it’s definitely worth keeping tabs on.

The game is out in September this year where it will be releasing on Steam and Xbox One. A PS4 release will follow later in the year.
