Could Ghostrunner be indie’s answer to Cyberpunk 2077?

Spaced out release dates, pls.

Is everyone still interested in cyberpunk? Has cyberpunk fatigue set in yet? Well, I hope not, because Ghostrunner is both cyberpunk and also has you wielding a sword like Genji from Overwatch – so wake up people! Cyberpunk can still be new and exciting! It’s not all grand RPGs from Poland.

Admittedly, the visuals are starting to get a little samey, but Ghostrunner has an interesting enough perspective to get us into a cyberpunk narrative once again. If it’s not the wall-jumping parkour that hooks you in, it’ll be the big sword swishing jumps from enemy to enemy. It’s fast paced movement and hard-hitting combat style, matched up with the thumping soundtrack, does make it look pretty wonderful.

In Ghostrunner you are cast as a cyber-warrior – hell bent on destroying enemies in both the real world and cyberspace. You inhabit a world of violence, poverty and chaos (naturally), but now is your chance to obtain enough power to challenge The Keymaster. The Keymaster is the one true power in Tower-city, a land you must literally ascend if you are to pose a threat to the status quo. Its one hit, one kill, so you better get good at parkour and sword swishing.

Ghostrunner has been doing the rounds at this year’s Gamescom and so far the demo has been getting some good responses, so we’re feeling pretty positive about this one. If you’re a fan of SUPERHOT combat and Titanfall parkour, this might just be one for you. For now, it’s release date is 2020. Lets hope it doesn’t release at the same time as Cyberpunk 2077.
