ScourgeBringer is a Celeste/Hyperlight Drifter crossover
Roguelite as fast you can.
ScourgeBringer. Bringer of Scourges. What’s a scourge you ask? It’s a “a person or thing that causes great trouble or suffering”. Thanks Google, was suffering for a second there. ScourgeBringer is among a whole host of fantastic looking games to be announced at Gamescon this year and oh, its pixelated purple hues are a lovely sight to see.
This pixelated beauty is an incredibly fast paced free-moving roguelite platformer that sits somewhere between Celeste and Dead Cells in it’s play style. Aesthetically we’re also getting some real Hyper Light Drifter vibes, although the platform maps don’t quite have the same story telling capability of the action-adventure RPG. It’s set in a, you guessed it, post-apocalyptic world “where a mysterious entity” is attempting to defeat humanity. Not to fear, however, you’re the world’s deadliest warrior, Kyhra, and you’re on a mission to kick some butt.
Combat is a simple combination of slashing, shooting and dashing to meet your targets, quickly moving through the square platformed maps to meet your foes. The dungeon you move through is large and various, and along the way you’ll encounter the relics of past explores, all hinting at the backstory of this land.
The game is made by just two talented developers at Flying Oak Games who previously made the twin-stick shooter RPG NeuroVoider. ScourgeBringer is being made as part of an “open-development” process, meaning players can feedback to the developers any time with their encouragement and tips. For now, the release date remains as “coming soon”, but to keep an eye out for any more updates see the Steam page.
