Nothing scares like Satan.
When FAITH was released back in 2017 it snapped up a good shovels-worth of attention for all the right reasons. Phrases like ‘best horror game in recent years’ were banded about quite regularly, and were written with all the more incredulity considering the game was available on itch.io for free. Since then this 8-bit 80s inspired horror game has received another chapter, and is now being released on Steam with a whole new chapter to boot.
The episodic scare fest centres around “The Satanic Scare” that was so prolific in horrors of the 80s. You’re a priest tasked with combating the scourge of the horned devil, setting out with your crucifix and holy water to exorcise the demons right out of those in your rural Connecticut town. In the process you discover “a world of dread, isolation, and mystery”, the perfect setting for a horror game that somehow reminds us of Twin Peaks levels of weirdness.
In each of the three chapters, an entirely new narrative sweeps up the young priest protagonist as they do their best to defeat the powers of evil. Chapter three, which will be releasing in the near future with the rest of the trilogy packaged up, sees the priest attempt to tackle an entire cult. Why tackle one possessed girl when you can take down a whole troop of them?
The games retro feel will be an instant hit with anyone that’s been enjoying Stranger Things, although it may pack a bit more of a horror punch than the Netflix series. FAITH: The Unholy Trinity will be available on Steam “soon”, keep an eye on the page to find out more.
