Wrath: Aeon of Ruin brings the Quake Engine into 2019
Gotta kill those pixels
Do you like to move fast and also shoot fast? Did you play Quake Arena as a small girl but spent most of your time jumping on and off those things that catapulted you into the air? No, just me then.
Wrath: Aeon of Ruin has come out of nowhere in some respects, and is now out in Early Access making the best possible use of the Quake 1 engine. Spoiler: It’s using it to make you shoot demons. The story follows you, a lone traveller with a big gun, as you journey on your task to destroy the Guardians of the Old World. You’ve been given this task by a white figure named Shepherd of Wayward Souls. This world may be dying, but with a few guardians out the way, you might give it a chance for a new life.
It’s all pretty dark and horror FPS-y, you know the drill. Heavily inspired by 90s shooters like, of course, Quake and Doom, this is a modern instalment of the genre that will take you right back to those heady, heady times. The team at 3D Realms have chosen to put the game into Early Access with a view to getting as much community feedback as possible. Included in the Early Access addition of Wrath are “the first of three non-linear hubs and two full levels rife with both monstrosities and secrets.”
If this sounds like your sort of thing, then Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is available now in Steam Early Access.
