Bastion devs launch dungeon crawler Hades into Early Access this week

Hades the god the underworld and also our hearts

How do you follow games like Bastion, Transistor and Pyre? You’d think Supergiant Games would start running out of luck at some point with all these successful titles right under their belt. Instead, they’ve continued perfecting their aesthetic, while exploration different genres with every new title. This week they’ve another refreshing take on a well known genre, with the early access release of Grecian dungeon crawler, Hades.

Hades is a ‘rogue-like dungeon crawler’ staring the god of the underworld himself, a rather dashing Hades. The game aims to combine all the best elements of the dev’s previous work, with the combat having the fast-pacing of Bastion and depth and character-building of Transistor and Pyre. As Hades, you have the power of Olympus to nick in order to get some sweet freedom from the god of the dead, but every escape attempt will surely lead back to death eventually. With each attempt Hades gets a little stronger, and as he does the story that surrounds him begins to unravel. If you’ve always been into Ancient Greece then you’re in luck; the cast of this game features all it’s main personalities from Athena right to Zeus himself.

Hades

Best of all though, is the way this game looks. Supergiant are masters with their use of colour, and each dungeon location has colour highlights that instantly bring it to life. While dungeon crawlers can sometimes get a little repetitive, this is the kind of environment I’d happily die to explore further. We’ll be checking out Hades as soon as it’s released into Early Access on Tuesday 10th, and we think you should too.
