Play anticipated indies online for free during The Game Festival

Because not everyone can fly to PAX or EGX

In conjunction with this years Game Awards, something rather special is happening. It’s a games festival but no, you don’t have to travel to the east coast of America, or even the west coast, or even London, or Berlin! You can join in on the fun right from your usual seat in front of your Steam account. You literally just have to remember your login.

Just yesterday Geoff Keighley, producer at Game Awards, announced plans for The Game Festival, which will begin from today (8:30PM ET / 5:30PM PT) until Saturday (10:00AM PT) on Steam. The blog itself sums it up best: “For 2019, The Game Festival will launch a digital pilot program on Steam. The Game Festival will feature more than a dozen first-look game demos, available to play for a limited 48-hour window before they are removed from Steam.” So it’s just like a convention, you’re just not going to catch a cold.

The titles that stand out for us are Heavenly Bodies, Eastward, Röki and CARRION, all of which will be hosting some kind of playable, limited time demo over the course of the next few days. Heavenly Bodies, a physics-based astronaut simulator, will be offering up a “training demo” which from the looks of their astronaut teaser videos featuring many objects getting stuck in closing space doors, will be really good fun. The game isn’t expect to launch until 2021, so this will be a great sneak peak into how development is progressing so far.

Keep an eye on Steam for more info on The Game Festival and for a full list of titles, go have a read of Keighley’s announcement post.
