Gris wins Outstanding Visual Style at the Steam Awards

Beating Three Kingdoms to the top

Is anyone really surprised? I mean, kind of actually. With The Steam Awards being voted for by the loud masses of Steam account users themselves, its nice to see an indie shoot to the top of category. This year, indie darling Gris has won the Outstanding Visual Style category, pipping monolith Total War: Three Kingdoms to the final post.

Gris is one of the indies that slipped through the net of obscurity this year and hit big time audiences. It’s was nominated for a whole host of awards across last year, and even won the Games for Impact award at the Game Awards in 2019. While some were left a little disappointed by Gris’ platforming sections, its visual appearance undeniably caught audience attention. The beauty of Gris‘ watercolour world was a breath of fresh air, and we’re happy to see it take the top spot.

Gris isn’t the only indie to snag centre stage. Beat Saber also received the VR Game of the Year award, A Plague Tale: Innocence won Outstanding Story-Rich Game, and DayZ received the Better With Friends award. It’s good to see that indies have stood out from the crowd in the last year, even if Grand Theft Auto V will probably win ‘Labour of Love’ every year. Maybe it’s because all those big AAA titles skipped off to Epic? Or maybe its just because indies are great.

You can get Gris from Steam literally any time you want.
