Black Myth: Wukong Is A Chinese Dark Souls

Monkey souls

Black Myth: Wukong is a game that has appeared overnight and has basically taken the gaming world by storm. That’s despite the fact that it has no release date, and it’s not from a studio anyone recognises. Oh, also, it looks just obscenely pretty. The footage seems to be Wukong telling tales of his youth to someone. It’s a cool take on the legend, and it could mean that we get to see some unique stories about this classic character.

It looks as though we’ll be getting to control the full force of his powers too, as one part has him blowing his own hair at enemies to create versions of himself to fight for him. That and the fact that he’s carrying a pole suggests that this could well be a very faithful version of Wukong, but hopefully telling a new story. He’s a fascinating character in his own right, but the stories that hold him are often about a group of people, rather than the Monkey King himself.

You might think you’ve not heard of Wukong, but I can almost guarantee that you have. Journey to the West told the tale of Sun Wukong, and that’s considered a classic novel. It ties together various different mythologies as its inspiration, but the tale it puts out has since been adapted into countless shows, films, games, and even manga. We’ll probably see countless more interpretations of it as well, but this looks to be one of the most interesting versions to date. There’s no release date yet, but the studio says they’re hoping to hit PC and the mainstream platforms too.
