Deflection Adds Lasers To Chess And Looks Great
Chess is an ancient game that has a simple ruleset that allows for mind games, strategy, and the odd Netflix adaptation. Its status allows for a lot of inventive interpretations based on it, and there are plenty of cool ideas out there that do something different to the core formula. These twists mix what we know with something we don’t, and while they don’t always hit the mark, it’s always fascinating to see them out there. One upcoming example of this involves lasers, mirrors, and portals, and it’s called Deflection.
Deflection is a game with the same aim as Chess: you need to defeat the opponent’s king. Unlike in normal Chess though, you do this by refracting a giant laser beam using blockers, mirrors, portals, and whatever else your pieces can do. You can not only move all of your pieces, but also rotate them. Not only that, but you run the risk of destroying yourself with your own contraptions if you’re not careful as both players can use everything on the board.
It looks absolutely fascinating, and I adore this style of game as it is. There’s no firm release date as of yet, but Coreffect Interactive are saying it’ll come out this year. Hopefully, that means we can all be shooting lasers at kings in a few months instead of at the end of the year. Either way though, this is definitely a game to keep an eye on if you like your strategy games to be a little different.
