Go back to the roots of survival horror in Tormented Souls
The rusty but razor-sharp scalpel. The operating table that creaks under the sheer weight of its unconscious patient. The unsanitary mix of blood, guts and bones in the hospital room. Tormented Souls seeks to bring us—and the genre—back to our most primal fears: the hospital, and the worst, most unimaginable horrors that take place, such as going under the operating knife against your will.
You found yourself in an abandoned, decrepit mansion-turned-hospital under the worst sort of circumstances. While investigating the disappearance of twin girls, you woke up in the dead of night—startled and stark naked—in a bathtub, while hooked up to some medical equipment. Ripping off the oxygen mask on your face, you try to stay alive and get to the bottom of the mystery. As par for the course, undead behemoths and gruesome abnormalities will hiss and rampage towards you from dark corners, as you wander down grimy corridors in search of the truth.
Tormented Souls isn’t shy about its classic survival horror inspirations—from Resident Evil to Silent Hill—while promising an upgrade with “modernised control scheme and a more dynamic camera”, That said, while its screenshots seem to promise the same, terrifying jaunt through a creepy locale—one that should grab the attention of survival horror fans—most of its features still seem rather pedestrian, filled with the same booby traps, confusing puzzles and ornate violence you see in other horror titles.
More details will probably be shared closer to its release date—probably sometime this year—which may illuminate more clues and details about its gloomy tale. Meanwhile, feast your eyes on the screenshots and trailers of Tormented Souls itself over at Steam.
