Biomutant Tips and Tricks
Biomutant is the debut open-world action RPG from developer Experiment 101, led by former Just Cause team members. Much like that series, Biomutant is a chaotic riot. It’s also a huge game—the 64 square kilometers that make up its map are loaded with tons of side quests, optional boss encounters, and secret locations to find. With such a timesink ahead, having a few Biomutant tips and tricks will help you make the most of your adventure.
Biomutant Tips and Tricks
There’s a lot of freedom in Biomutant. You have multiple options for building your character, you’re free to tackle quests in any order you choose, and you can handcraft a collection of powerful gear. How you play is ultimately up to you, but these Biomutant tips and tricks will help you get a headstart on your quest to save (or doom!) the world and unite its Tribes.
Invest Early in the Luck Attribute
Every time you level up in Biomutant, you’ll increase one of six attributes (vitality, strength, intellect, agility, charisma, and luck) by 10 points. Regardless of how you plan on speccing your character, choosing to increase your luck early on is extremely beneficial. Higher luck not only helps with your chances to land critical hits, but also your chance at scoring loot. Battles in Biomutant can be challenging and you’ll need all the help you can get to improve your odds of finding gear and health items of high quality and rarity. You’ll level up pretty quickly, so don’t fret about your health and damage output right out of the gate.
Crowd Control Abilities are Essential
Unless it’s a proper boss battle, you’ll rarely be fighting one-on-one. It’s common to find yourself completely surrounded by enemies. Having a couple crowd control abilities on hand is crucial for staying alive. A PSI-Power like Freeze or the Mucus Bubble mutation will help prevent you from getting overwhelmed.
Keep in mind that while you only need bio points to unlock mutations, unlocking PSI-Powers requires you to meet a Dark or Light Aura requirement along with PSI-points. These Aura points can only be gained through dialogue choices. Take a look at the list of PSI-Powers and plan to make Aura-specific decisions ahead of time to unlock what you want.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Once you have a fair amount of funds in your wallet, it’s often better to dismantle your gear rather than selling it. Breaking down your unwanted items gives you resources that you’ll use for crafting weapons and installing armor add-ons. Constantly upgrading your gear should be your top priority. Check shops mainly for base weapon parts, as what you craft will usually be more powerful than what you can buy.
Unlock the Health Injector Function ASAP
A lot of open-world games have offered a glider mechanic since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Biomutant is no different. As such, it might be tempting to choose the Glider function when you unlock your first Automaton upgrade. However, you’re better off prioritizing the Health Injector instead. Having an extra heal in your back pocket is extremely valuable in tough fights. The Glider is relatively useless in terms of aiding traversal anyway, so don’t worry about limiting your exploration.
Commit Fully to One Aura for Your First Playthrough
Choosing to follow a path of gray morality might seem like the logical way to unlock new PSI-Powers, and that’s true for the most part. But you’re likely to end up leaning more heavily towards either Dark or Light Aura decisions rather than both. Embrace this and stick to one Aura path to ensure you gain enough Aura points to unlock its full list of powers. All of your gear and character progression carries over into New Game+, so you’ll be able to reap the benefits of your initial choice while walking the opposite path in your next playthrough.
