Ripout

Eviscerate alien space soldiers with friends in Ripout

Ripout, a horror first-person shooter by indie studio Pet Project Games, looks like a riot. Set in a derelict space stations and battleships filled with bloodthirsty aliens and sentient mutants that were borne from our hubris—an attempt by humanity to create super-soldiers gone horribly wrong—you’re now one of the many soldiers tasked to, well, just kill everything in your sight.

Rather than having to do everything alone, you can now explore these floating graveyards with up to four friends, and with an arsenal of bioweapons and high-tech firepower to eviscerate everything in your path. One prominent weapon you’ll have at your disposal—and probably the thing that will set Ripout apart from other space shooters—is this adorable little alien gun called the Living Pet Weapon (LPW), which you can use to absorb advanced tech from enemies, such as shield, plasma and other nifty biotech upgrades, that you can probably use to upgrade your firearms. The LPW itself looks like an armored, veiny worm that you can point at enemies, and have it devour them into little meaty bits.

Comparisons to Dead Space will definitely be forthcoming; at this point, it essentially looks like a multiplayer version of Dead Space. That said, Ripout also boosts of procedurally generated maps and reconfigurable, evolving monsters—a promise that battles will remain unpredictable. But from the game’s footage, Ripout already looks like a horrifying, blood-spattered mess that I would love to get my hands on.

Ripout will be released only next year on 1 February, and you can see all the gory details in its trailers on Steam.
