You Should Play Ender Lilies: Quietus Of The Knights
We talked about Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights back in January when it launched into Early Access, but haven’t had a chance to talk about it since it fully launched back in June. For those who don’t know, Ender Lilies is a Metroidvania game where you play as a young woman called Lily, who’s one of the few survivors of an abhorrent curse that’s been turning people into monsters.
That’s a less than ideal situation, but thankfully, you’re not alone. One knight has remained by your side, but has lost their physical form. It’s your job to help them give their soul shape, and you can do so in order to attack. In fact, the souls of others are how you’ll gain new abilities in this game. Each time you kill off a notable enemy you’ll absorb it into yourself, often with some small bit of story being revealed as you do so. You can then equip them to unleash them in battle, and upgrade yourself in doing so.
It’s a fairly classic approach to the genre, but everything in the game feels so clean and enjoyable that you’ll struggle not to enjoy yourself. The graphical style is dark, but strangely charming. The soundtrack is absolutely stunning. The combat itself is amazing too, with each new option genuinely feeling as though it can change your approach to the enemies in front of you. It all just feels good, and it’s a game that you should absolutely give some time to.
