This is the Police 2

This is the Police 2 arriving later this year

Belarusian studio Weappy released its new trailer today.

The much acclaimed noir corrupt police simulator This is the Police (2016) is getting a deserved sequel as indie belarusian studio Weappy published today a brand new teaser-trailer, featuring who seems to be an old retired Freeburg’s Police Chief, Jack Boyd. This new title will be available “later this year” and will be supported by PC/macOS, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.

The brand new trailer we got doesn’t say much in regards to a storyline, but it depicts perfectly Weappy’s intention of putting us back in the shoes of corrupt police officers as we witness an old man (who appears to be the previous game’s main character, Jack Boyd), being beat up by two law authority members that break into his house in search for drugs. While one of them looks around, the other one starts an intense monologue while putting a gun to his head. By the way, the voice acting sounds really good and there’s some really neat camera work done.

The developers added an excerpt in their official website in which they present their new trailer and describe what the sequel is going to be about: “Welcome to Sharpwood, where people know their neighbors by name and faithfully keep to their traditions, no matter how barbaric those traditions might be. Smugglers, gangs, and screaming populists call this town their home. Despair grows like a cancer, hand in hand with violence. It’s a hell of a job for the new sheriff, Lilly Reed (voiced by Sarah Hamilton, of the celebrated adventure saga The Longest Journey). She’s struggling to maintain order and peace, while her subordinates are uncouth men who aren’t used to taking commands from a young woman. But everything changes when a mysterious stranger calling himself Warren Nash appears in Sharpwood. And no one knows what he’ll bring to the town: salvation or perdition.”

It’s clear that this new entry won’t be taking place in the original town of Freeburg as they obviously mention Sharpwood as the main story location. Meanwhile, it’s kind of obvious that the old man featured in the trailer is in fact Jack Boyd using an alias (Warren Nash), made clear by the dialogue between this character and one of the officers. When asked his name, he starts saying “Boyd”, although he finishes presenting himself as Nash after being interrupted.

This is the Police 2 already promises that grim noir drama ambiance that the original game so wonderfully portrayed with its narrative and unique graphics, as players had to manage a Police Chief handling the town’s safety while being extorted to corruption by the mafia. Weappy Studio hasn’t given away an official release date, although the promised it to be later this year.
