Muffled Warfare

Muffled Warfare enters Steam Early Access

Keep your ears peeled for bad guys in this unconventional FPS.

Getting bored of the same old cookie-cutter FPS fare on Steam and want to try something new? Well, you’re in luck: Muffled Warfare is a multiplayer FPS with a bit of a difference, as you see your surroundings using echolocation, so if your weapon is not firing then you are invisible.

Stealth shooters are sometimes rather slow and require a lot of patience, but the idea behind Muffled Warfare is to speed things up and create a more fast-paced action shooter, but one which makes you think carefully about when to break cover and reveal your position. It’s designed with multiplayer in mind, although the team are also keen to showcase the ‘future-gen’ AI system Burden Intelligence.

The visuals of this game are definitely different from most FPS’s with a very stripped down, black and white style which some players might find a little too simplistic. But it does also come with additional skins and some interesting weapon/ammo types, which take advantage of the unique graphics.

This game might seem like a camper’s paradise, and this was a big concern raised on Reddit by some commenters, but the answer from the team (Gattai Games, based in Singapore) is that item pickups are spawned in various locations around the map so you can’t stay in the same place constantly, and there’s also a ‘pulse gun’ which can paint a whole area even if someone isn’t firing their weapon.

There’s a 10% discount for three days only on Steam so grab Muffled Warfare while it’s hot. Early reviews have found it very fun and slick, and a good sequel to its award winning precedessor, Stifled. The main problem is that, like many newly released multiplayer indie games, there’s a bit of a dearth of players, so be sure to head to the official Discord to look for people to play with.
