A Fold Apart

A Fold Apart starts Fig Funding Campaign

Explore a long distance relationship through folding paper.

Family-friendly entertainment company Lightning Rod Games has today revealed the first preview trailer for A Fold Apart: a 3D puzzle game about the emotional struggle of a long distance relationship set in a world of folding paper. The reveal also coincides with the game’s launch on the Fig.co platform which is used to crowdfund games, with it officially being the first opportunity to support and preorder A Fold Apart. Inspired by origami and papercraft, the award-winning game mechanic in the game is completely new, allowing you to fold and manipulate a paper world so as to navigate a long distance relationship. Based on the true story of the real life long distance relationship between Lightning Rod Games’ co-founder Mark Laframboise and his now wife, Robyn.

Just as in the true story, when career choices force the characters down separate paths, they vow to make their relationship work despite the challenges of living apart. Though they frequently communicate through text messages, misunderstandings are inevitable and cause the characters to erect emotional barriers that physically bar their path. By folding the pieces of paper these characters inhabit, players are able to help the couple safely navigate around their relationship hurdles and find a way forward. Additionally, players can chose any gender combination for their character couple while exploring over 50 unique puzzles and a heartfelt emotional narrative.

If you are interested in supporting the game, the crowdfunding initiative is currently active on the A Fold Apart Fig page, which will facilitate the development of additional paper folding mechanics, enhance the story through added animation and cutscenes, as well as enable the game to come to all major platforms at launch, including the Nintendo Switch. You can also find the game on the A Fold Apart Steam page, with an expected release date of Valentines Day, 2019.
