Steam Summer Sale 2018: Best Indie Games

We run through some of the best indie games you can pick up in this year’s Steam Summer Sale.

Steam Summer Sale

The annual Steam Summer Sale is upon us again, so we here at The Indie Game Website thought we’d pick out some of the top choice indie games on sale to save you the trouble of sifting through the never-ending discounts.  In no particular order, here are some of the best games you can pick up in this year’s sale.

Dead Cells

Dead Cells is a rogue-lite, Metroidvania action-platformer with punishing mechanics and fast-paced gameplay. The name of the game is to explore a shifting castle space utilising friendly ‘souls-lite’ combat to encourage people to politely move out of your way. It’s punishing, but it’s fun and it’s also 40% off so worth a look if you like that sort of thing.

Ori and the Blind Forest

Ori and the Blind Forest tells the touching story of a young orphan who embarks on an epic quest through a visually stunning world.  It’s a beautifully presented Metroidvania that’s definitely worth a play. It’s also 50% off so what are you waiting for? Did I also mention it’s the Definitive Edition, so it comes with all the juicy extra bits.

What Remains of Edith Finch

Who says games can’t be emotional? Definitely not developers Giant Sparrow who’s BAFTA award-winning game, What Remains of Edith Finch is currently 50% off on Steam. The game features a collection of strange tales about a family in Washington State that you explore through main character Edith as you come to understand your mysterious family history. Sounds intriguing right?

Observer

Has Cyberpunk 2077 got you itching for some futuristic action? Well, Layers of Fear creators, Bloober Team might just have a cyberpunk horror game that will tide you over. In Observer you play the role of one of the new front line of neural police, as you hack into the jagged minds of the insane. It’s 40% off right now so check it out.

Stories Untold

Stories Untold is a compilation tape of four experimental adventures with a Stranger Things kind of creepy-cool vibe to it. It’s short and sweet, but certainly not forgettable as a psychological horror with more edges than a dodecahedron. You can also get it for a steal right now at 75% off.

LISA

And, finally, there’s LISA. If you’re a fan of the Mother series then you’re going to like this. Played out as a quirky side-scrolling RPG set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, LISA has a lot of hidden narrative depth as you delve past the charming and funny exterior to find a world full of disgust and moral destruction. It’s 50% off right now for the Standard Edition and 65% off for the Complete, so definitely worth a look if that sounds like your kind of thing.
