Josef Fares

“It’s not a sex game but you’re going to get fucked”

That’s Josef Fares for you, right there.

Josef Fares

Love’em, hate’em, but you can’t deny he is something unique. Josef Fares, creator of co-op narrative-driven adventures Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out, has a way of delivering impactful quotes left and right. In his last interview with VG247 he talked about his new project, which will follow the same basic concepts as his previous creations.

There’s not much to go on right now, but we do know that Fares is doubling down with his multiplayer story games ideas, and I gotta respect that. There are only a handful of developers who have a unique style and just explode with new ideas all the time to keep feeding their fans. Fares is one of them.

“It’s not a sex game but you’re going to get fucked”, was Fares’ most recent spikey quote. He kind of answered what we all wanted to know: if there’s going to be a sequel to A Way Out. “What I can say is it’s not A Way Out 2″, he stated. “But if you look at Brothers, A Way Out, and the next game, you will see it’s the same studio that makes the game. But it will be something completely, totally different and it will be way more focused on trying to make the mechanics a part of the game, but it’s going to be something with a story that will remind of Brothers and A Way Out but in a very different way.”

So we know it’s going to be a multiplayer, co-op story-driven experience with twists and turns, unexpected outcomes and Fares’ unique way of storytelling, a skill that has allowed him to be amongst the most cryptic and mind-boggling indie developers out there. It kind of reminds me of Hideo Kojima’s style, in an ever so slight way.

What I truly love about Fares is his passion in creating stories, telling them in unique ways and engaging gamers with his own, unorthodox methods. I always prefer games that put storytelling above anything else, and Fares does just that, while also providing undeniably fun gameplay.

I truly hope his new project gets a larger spotlight soon, with more details and a glimpse at his new tale.
