Things get steamy in Furi developer’s new sci-fi game Haven

Sensual sci-fi.

Having a game like Furi under their belt has given developers The Game Bakers that sweet credibility, and now anything else they announce causes a good stir of excitement. Their new title Haven has done just that, but it’s a marked departure from what the studio is known for.

On their site, The Game Bakers state: “We made Furi, next we had to make something different. Something that would explore another range of emotions. What do you need after Furi? You need a break. Can we make a game that feels like a break? A game that feels like a breath of fresh air. A pause in our fast paced lives. (…)

[Haven is] a completely different pace. It’s a game that aims at making you feel relaxed, making you laugh, making you fall in love with Yu and Kay”

From the new gameplay trailer, things certainly seem to go at a slower pace in this new title. Here, we get a more detailed insight into the lives of Kay and Yu, the protagonist couple at the centre of this sensual sci-fi tale. We see the pair gliding through multicoloured landscapes, sometimes holding hands, sometimes with one in the lead. Back at their camp we see the chat as normal couples do, even getting a little bit raunchy here and there.

The presentation of these more narrative sections feels very reminiscent of JRPGs, whereas the combat system sees you layering on attacks from both characters to create impressive combos. The devs describe the combat as “not turn-based, but not completely real time either” with “sensual rhythm to the combat”. Which, of course, means I now have Lionel Richie playing in my head for some reason.

Despite the dual protagonists, The Game Baker’s do intend for this to be a solo experience, but there are opportunities for co-op in certain sections.

The game is due to be released in 2020. To find out more about the game, check out Haven’s Steam page.
