Outlast series returns with horrors new and co-op too
We wont rhyme again in a title, promise.
Don’t you just love an extremely early days game announcement? Only three sentences of information given by devs but already our little new game senses are tingling with hopes and dreams of incredibly scares to come. Anyway, the devs at Red Barrel Games have announced that there will be a new Outlast game in the near future, so that’s exciting isn’t it?
The last iteration of the series came out in 2017 and followed the formula of its predecessor; your protagonist is thrown into an environment of unspeakable horrors, and must survive with what little they have, and find. Focusing on a kind of psychological horror, the games were known for their genuine scare factor, making utter wimps of us all. This time things will be a little different as the series takes a turn toward co-op after making its name as a single player horror franchise.
Red Barrel Games have now announced that the third instalment of the game will come in the form of The Outlast Trials. All that we really know so far is that the game will be set in the Cold War era, and will allow players to face horrors alone or with “fellow test subjects”. Sounds pretty ominous. For now, it’s still in production, but co-founder David Chateauneuf does have this to say: “Now we’ve done our proof of concept, it is time focus on content creation, variety… and gore.”
Get ready for the spooks.
