The Next Best Horror Game Might Be The Medium

Bloober Team sure is committed to trying to shorten people’s lifespans. Everything they’ve put out since 2016 has been some variation on “what if everything was scary?” and honestly, I’m not here for it. Horror games aren’t for me though, I’ve got a toddler and two cats, I see horror every day that I’m alive just by virtue looking after other living things. Whoever the horror games are for will be very excited to know that the next game that Bloober is putting out is yet another horror game, but this one’s called The Medium.

The Medium casts you as a medium, presumably one that’s not faking it to bring in as much money as they can from people who are grieving. You have to explore an abandoned communist resort to find out what on earth happened there while also trying to survive against the rather unhappy spirits you’ll come across.

What makes this really cool though, is that you get to switch between the realm of the living and the dead to solve these puzzles. Sometimes you’ll find new clues as you do so, and sometimes you’ll just get frightened out of your skin and end up crying in the corner because guess what, it was behind you all along. Any game takes place across to realms at the same time usually ends up being pretty fascinating, and the potential to do so in a horror game is nearly enough to entice even me, noted hater of horror games, into playing The Medium. But only nearly enough.
