You Should Play Pyre
I was going to just write this because I think Pyre is an overlooked game, but having decided to do so, I’ve not got the music from the game stuck in my head, so now I’m kind of hoping writing about it will stop the songs being on repeat in my brain. A lot of people will have been introduced to Supergiant Games via Hades, and that’s great, but I’m going to need you to explore the games that came before it.
Pyre is a sports game, but not for a sport you know. Instead, you play a brand-new sport that has you trying to dunk a ball into a magical ring. It’s explained far better in the game itself, but while ball is, in fact, life, it’s not the best part of Pyre. As is often the case, the best part of Pyre is the story and the characters within that story. It tells a tale of revolution, of forgiveness, of retribution, and of one very good dog with a moustache.
It’s a game that you might not sound like one you’ll enjoy, but it’s so much better than the sum of its parts, and it’s probably the game in Supergiant’s library that gets most often overlooked. I imagine that’s because of the unusual premise, but you’ll be getting the exact same level of polish you’d expect from the game, and therefore, it’s essential that you go ahead and check it out as soon as possible. That means now, ideally.
