Out There Oceans of Time

Survive a relentless galaxy in Out There: Oceans of Time

The unknowable expanse of the galaxy and all its hazards make for an incredibly ripe setting for survival tales, and it’s no wonder there’s another space game being thrown into the mix: the space roguelike Out There: Oceans of Time.

Oceans of Time doesn’t seem to stray far from the space fiction formula, but if its predecessor from 2015 is anything to go by, the game may wind up to be a particularly challenging space roguelike, told through the narrative lens of a space epic. The sequel to the space exploration game Out There, Oceans of Time is also about enduring the treacherous stretches of space after being woken up from a cryogenic sleep and marooned on a hostile planet.

You’ll need to mine for minerals and resources with a crew of alien companions, make much needed excursions to other uncharted planets, and trade and barter with other factions and potential allies. You’re also promised the tantalising thrill of making moral decisions, as well as an element of diplomacy and politics involved.

Yet among the virtual worlds of many space games, The Out there series has been notable for portraying space faring not just as a new frontier for bountiful, exotic worlds, but a punishing conquest for survival against nearly impossible odds. The focus is thus on surviving the harsh space expeditions through limited resources and strategising your moves, instead of engaging in dazzling firefights and intricate space combat.

The game will see a release sometime this year. Find out more about the space adventures in Out There: Oceans of Time on Steam, along with a free demo.
