Gunfire Reborn

Gunfire Reborn Is One Of The Best Roguelikes Around

Gunfire Reborn is a multiplayer FPS roguelike that’s been in Early Access for over a year, and has gotten substantially better with every single update. It started off as a well-polished game with three levels, a boss at the end of each, and one playable character who could be taken into multiple different builds. With the latest update, which is the penultimate one before it releases later this year, we now have five characters, an extra potential boss in each level, a lot more weapons, massively tweaked and far more build options.

Not only that, but we also have multiple difficulties, and even a mode called Reincarnation, which has seven difficulty levels and brings in new mechanics for players to use if they’ve maxed out their favourite character and need something to spend Spirit Essence on, which is the currency that lets you buy permanent upgrades. It means that there’s always something to keep you playing, and that you don’t have to sit there with loads of Spirit Essence just wondering if there’s any point in trying to keep paying.

Every single character offers around three different builds, all of which are a little random due to the roguelike nature of the game. On top of those fifteen potential builds, you then have specific weapon-based builds. The weapons in this game aren’t just assault rifles and SMGs either, they’re fiery swords that can shoot out projectiles, or chameleons that spit poison and fire with alternating shots. If you haven’t played Gunfire Reborn yet then you need to do so, and if you’re worried about doing poorly, keep in mind that you can play with three other players, and that’s where the game really shines. With one more major update to come, which is going to bring yet another new character along with a new level and a true final boss, Gunfire Reborn is one of the most exciting indie games of this year.
