You Should Play Paradise Killer

Just go and play Paradise Killer. This is one of those rare times that I’d genuinely be tempted to leave it at just that, but alas, it’s probably not enough to convince you to do so if you’ve not already done so. Now then, Paradise Killer is an adventure game where you have to investigate why the latest iteration of paradise has gone awry, and what fate has befallen the architects of this place.

You take control of Lady Love Dies, someone exiled from paradise long ago who’s been turned to as the only one capable of solving this mystery, along with the countless others that sit amongst the denizens of this peculiar place. This isn’t just a paradise though, this is somewhere blessed by gods and cursed by demons, all of whom seem to be keen on misleading you, pushing you forwards onto what they want, and forcing their own will upon the island itself. It’s an interesting enough concept, but it might not work as well as it does were it not for the incomparable style of the game.

The UI constantly shifts between different eras, the music is fluid throughout blending styles as though they were fruits in a blender. The storylines overlap like a bright-coloured fleece, and it’s impossible not to be entranced by the whole thing. Of course, this isn’t style without substance, it’s style because of substance, and it’s an incredible experience because of it. To give away any of the story beats would be spoiling things, so I won’t do that. However, you need to re-read the first sentence of this piece and then act on it, especially as it’s on sale.
