Cultist Simulator introduces new free ‘advanced mode’

Who needs a cult when you can become a god?

The bizarre Cultist Simulator has just gotten a lot weirder with a new, free post-game mode.

The free update, which releases on January 22, is unlocked when you complete the main game, and lets you transcend the simple goal of starting your own cult and achieving immortality. In “Advanced Mode,” as developer Weather Factory calls it, you’re tasked with the lofty goal of becoming a god.

All you need to do? Well, that’s easy: finish the game and start working to transform yourself into a deity. Just kidding about the “easy” part, because immortal beings are going to be working around the clock to keep you from ascending. Through a series of disturbing cards you’ll find your family abused and/or kidnapped, your plans sabotaged, and everything falling down around you as you work on your path to godhood.

So, all in all, it sounds a lot like playing the regular Cultist Simulator path, right? What essentially amounts to a “New Game+” option seems like the next best evolution for the game, at any rate, so if you feel you’ve seen all Cultist Simulator has to offer and you’re ready to take on a new challenge, this “unfair” option should sate your hunger for something more substantial. Get ready to push yourself even harder than working at a job you hate at the beginning of the game, because things are about to get real.
