You Should Play Vampyr

While there are plenty of new games coming out in the next few weeks, it’s always important to go back and take a look at games you might have missed. I try and do it every so often, and while I usually just end up playing Rocket League or Gunfire Reborn instead, I decided to give Vampyr a go. I’ve not played it for as long as I’d like yet, but I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve played of it so far.

Set in London in 1918, you play as Jonathan Reid, a wartime doctor who has just returned back to the city and things have gone rather awry. Long story short, and avoiding key spoilers, he’s ended up becoming a vampire, and will have to not only deal with that but also everything else going on in the city. It’s not a great time for London, and while playing a game set in a pandemic during a pandemic is stressful, at least you get to go outside in this one and not worry because you’ve already died once.

The thing that makes Vampyr so special though, isn’t the setting or the fact that you get to dash around and use cool vampire powers, it’s the people. Each character you meet has their own likes, dislikes, history, and connections. You can choose to improve them as people by helping them out, and by doing so you’ll increase the experience you can gain from them if you decide to feed on them. Of course, if you choose to do that then you’ll be losing someone valuable from the community. It’s honestly astonishing, and it makes Vampyr a game worthy of your time.
