You Should Play Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night

It’s been exactly a year and a half since Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night came out, and honestly, the game has continued to improve long after it’s release. While it hasn’t received the roguelike update that many people were hoping for, it’s still a vastly improved game from the one we had at launch. It’s is, as a result, one of the best Metroidvanias around, and well worth your attention if you fancy a bit of classic Castlevania action.

If you’re unaware of the game, allow me to explain. You play as Miriam (at least normally), a woman with the power to absorb the souls of the demons she slays in order to gain their power. It’s because of this that you can gain increasingly obnoxious abilities as the game goes on, and it’s also how you gain new abilities that allow you to explore areas. It’s a cool system, and basically amounts to being a good excuse to gain lots of cool abilities inspired by the monsters you end up fighting against.

With new characters to play as and new ways to experience the game, it really is better than it’s ever been before. So, if you feel like you want something nostalgic to play, but would rather experience it via a new game, then this might well be the game you’re looking for. The holiday season is the perfect time to lock yourself inside and explore a haunted castle too. So, it really is a great time to play Bloodstained whether you’ve played it before or not.
